Quest Atlantis
published: 12.10.12

Our class will begin Quest Atlantis in January. The Atlantis Remixed Project and Quest Atlantis have supported students and teachers in conducting rich inquiry-based explorations through which students learn standards-based content, and develop pro-social attitudes regarding significant environmental and social issues. Rather than just placing work and play side-by-side, the ARX Project strives to make learning fun and to show kids they can make a difference.

In addition to aligning student work with these standards, all Quests are also associated with an idea about what it means to use this knowledge in a socially responsible manner. Participation in this game is designed to enhance the lives of children while helping them grow into knowledgeable, responsible, and empathetic adults. The ARX project hopes to foster an awareness of seven critical dimensions in order to actualize them in the lives of children:

• Compassionate Wisdom - "Be Kind"
• Creative Expression - "I Create"
• Environmental Awareness - "Think Globally, Act Locally"
• Personal Agency - "I Have Voice"
• Healthy Communities - "Live, Love, Grow"
• Social Responsibility - "We Can Make a Difference"
• Diversity Affirmation - "Everyone Matters"

Retake Forms…

To re-take a test, students are to attach the original test to the form along with the intervention that’s been used to correct the failing assessed skills and a parent’s signature.  In a vertical file rack located on the extra student desk at Table two in the classroom, are RETAKE forms students will use this nine weeks.  Each particular form is color coded for easy access.  Spelling and vocabulary retake forms are tan; math retake forms are blue; SS/science retake forms are green; literacy retake forms are pink; and general retake forms are yellow. To see the forms go to http://www.flyparsons.org/retakes.html

Typing Practice Makes Perfect…

Please remind your child to be practicing on the keyboarding practice website Mrs. Purcell-Orleck has set up.  As Common Core is implemented, students will be required to be assessed online.  To be effective with this type of testing, students are to be able to type 2-3 pages in one sitting at the sixth grade level and more than three pages by seventh grade.  The typing site is http://www.typingweb.com/.  Students have a username and password.
