HomeworkÉ
Many thanks go to all of the students who are faithful in
turning assignments in on time regularly.
We do, still, have a few students who are continuing to be neglectful in
getting assignments in at the appointed time. Students, please be reminded that failing to turn
assignments in on time is going to affect your report card grade. Please make a new commitment to keep up
to date on homework and make your parents, teacher and yourself proud!
Personal
JournalsÉ
Monday, November 30 is the next date for personal journals
to be checked. Entries #61-70 will
be checked. All entries are to be
at least one paragraph in length and hand written in the personal journal composition
notebook. Typed or lose papers
will not be accepted. There will
be not late journal grades this time.
If it is not turned in on Monday, and complete, a zero will be
assigned. Please be diligent in
staying caught up!
Centennial/Invention
Convention: Dec 16É
The Fifth Grade Centennial event is approaching. Students were to have turned in their
ÒIntent to InventÓ form today. Thank you to those who did. The Invention Convention on December 16
will spotlight the individual inventions every student has created. The invention should be something that
can help make daily life easier.
Students are to make a model of their invention and bring it to school
by Monday, December 14.
Parent volunteers are still needed. A yellow form was also included in the packet that needs to
be returned if it has not already been.
We are also in desperate need of families to bring main course food
dishes (not just water or candy) for December 16. Mrs. Cook says that very little has been committed. Any and all help will be appreciated!
Kilowatt
OursÉ
Students have studied about conservation in recent
weeks. The program is called
Kilowatt Ours. Students are to be
looking for ways to conserve electricity around the home. Hopefully many have already implemented
some things! From December to
March, we will track our energy consumption on the Kilowatt Ours website,
ÒCount Your Kilowatts.Ó More
information may be found on our class website.
Science
FairÉ
Students
were to have a binder set up with dividers by yesterday. Research will be conducted
to produce a research paper next week.
After that, a hypothesis. Will be created based on the research. The hypothesis will then be tested in a
controlled setting. The results of
that test will be then analyzed and communicated through the project
display. The Meigs science fair
will occur in February. Winners at
that time will go on the Metro –Nashville fair in March. For more
information go to: http://www.flyparsons.org/sciencefair.html

Log Book Check is December 3.
Pep Rally is December 4.
Centennial is Wednesday, December 16.
TuesdaysÉ
Students receive graded papers in the Red Tuesday Folder
every Tuesday. All papers do go home on Tuesdays. If for any reason they do not arrive, let Mr. P know. Students may correct any and all
assignments and assessments for some of the credit (points) back. Those
corrections are to be stapled to the Tuesday Folder Signature Sheet. Mr. P then re-grades the corrections
and put the points earned in a category on Gradespeed labeled extra
credit. The original grade does
remain, while the points earned by making corrections are cumulated in that
extra credit category. As
mentioned, student grades are on-line at https://gradespeed.mnps.org. Parents and students have a password to
check each subject in order to view grades. This should be done each Tuesday and recorded on the
Tuesday Folder Signature Sheet.
