Centennial:
Dec 16É
The Fifth Grade Centennial is approaching. On Wednesday,
December 16, students will participate in several events throughout the
day. Among those are: the
immigration station (in the library), the Invention Convention (Rooms 202 &
204), Foods (Room 205), Arts/Crafts, Music (Room 206) and others. Students are to prepare for the day by
doing two things. ONE: creating an
invention (due by Dec. 14) and TWO: learning the citizenship questions. Many thanks to all of the parent
volunteers who have or will help with this endeavor!
Invention:
Due Dec 14É
Student created inventions are due on Monday, December
14. Each student will share
his/her invention in class that day.
The invention will be graded according to the rubric students were given
(pink sheet) in the Centennial information packet. On Tuesday afternoon, student inventions will be displayed
for the Centennial on Wednesday. A
card may be placed with the invention that states its title and it
purpose/function. Ask yourself the
following two questions. Is it
clear by looking, what my invention is and what its purpose is. If not, please write a brief
description on a card to accompany it.
Go
TrinityÉ

Note from Mr. PÉ
1. Thanks, Mrs.
Melton for doing the Safe@Last program in our classroom!
2. Work each night on your science fair research. Students have very little homework to
do so time may be spent on the science fair research. The rough draft of the research paper is due Monday.
3. Please
remember that corrections are not recorded each week after being received on
the Tuesday Signature Sheet. If a
paper was returned to Mr. P with corrections, you may expect to see that added
in at the end of the nine weeks.
4. DonÕt forget to earn extra Meigs Moolah by keeping up
with and filling out a HOMEWORK WORD CHART found on the homework webpage daily.

About Which to Mark Your CalendarÉ
Log Book Check is December 10.
Centennial is Wednesday, December 16.
The November Monthly Book game board is due December 17.
Winter Holidays
begin December 18.
Science
FairÉ
Students
will conduct research to produce a research paper beginning this week. After that, a hypothesis will be
created based on the research. The
hypothesis will then be tested in a controlled setting. The results of that test will be then
analyzed and communicated through the project display. The Meigs science fair will occur
February 9. Winners at that time
will go on the Metro –Nashville fair in March. For more information go
to: http://www.flyparsons.org/sciencefair.html
Kilowatt
OursÉ
Students have studied about conservation in recent weeks. The program is called Kilowatt
Ours. Students are to be looking
for ways to conserve electricity around the home. Hopefully many have already implemented some things! From December to March, we will track
our energy consumption on the Kilowatt Ours website, ÒCount Your
Kilowatts.Ó More information may
be found on our class website.
HomeworkÉ
Many thanks go to all of the students who are faithful in
turning assignments in on time regularly.
We do, still, have a few students who are continuing to be neglectful in
getting assignments in at the appointed time. Students, please be reminded that failing to turn
assignments in on time is going to affect your report card grade. Please make a new commitment to keep up
to date on homework and make your parents, teacher and yourself proud!
TuesdaysÉ
Students receive graded papers in the Red Tuesday Folder
every Tuesday. All papers do go home on Tuesdays. If for any reason they do not arrive, let Mr. P know. Students may correct any and all
assignments and assessments for some of the credit (points) back. Those
corrections are to be stapled to the Tuesday Folder Signature Sheet. Mr. P then re-grades the corrections
and put the points earned in a category on Gradespeed labeled extra
credit. The original grade does
remain, while the points earned by making corrections are cumulated in that
extra credit category. As
mentioned, student grades are on-line at https://gradespeed.mnps.org. Parents and students have a password to
check each subject in order to view grades. This should be done each Tuesday and recorded on the
Tuesday Folder Signature Sheet.
HOMEWORK
WORDS = Special RewardsÉ
Kids, be sure to check the ÒHWÓ webpage for the HOMEWORK
WORD each day. Each week a special
reward will await those who follow through! By the way there are also chances
for secret words on Twitter and the Tuesday Note Home from time to time! Please look and donÕt forget!
