Science Fair RemindersÉ

            The science fair is quickly approaching.  Friday, January 21 is the new due date for the science fair research paper to be typed and handed in to Mr. Parsons.  Friday is also when a grade will be taken for the following: 1.) revised hypothesis, 2.) revised procedure.  An update on science fair testing (experiment) should be ready by Friday, January 28.  The science fair final due date is Monday, February 7.

HereÕs a reminder of the science fair guidelines from MNPS.

1.  Must have a testable question

2.  Perform at least 3 trials

3.  Results must be measurable with numerical values

4.  Should be clear that the student did the work

5.  Results and data should be clearly presented with graphs and/or tables

6.  Photos are encouraged

7.  The following materials are not allowed at the science fair:  glass, sharp objects,   powder, soil, plants, and/or mold.

8.  Student names and/or pictures should not be shown on the board or logbook.

 

BettyÕs BrainÉ

            We are continuing BettyÕs Brain.  This round, students will be learning about climate change in preparation for a team project aimed at ways to make middle school more Ògreen.Ó  Today, students were able to begin concept mapping using the resources provided to ÒteachÓ the ÒBettyÓ student.  Many students are making significant progress.  We will continue the process through next week.

 

Statistics ProjectÉ

            All sixth grade math classes began a math unit today with on statistics.  The culminating activity will involve each student creating a portfolio (folder) with an example of each kind of graph we have studied.  More may be found on our class website.  Click on the statistics link: http://www.flyparsons.org/statisticsproject.html

 

 EdmodoÉ

Edmodo is a classroom social networking website.  Each student in our class has an account already set up.  This week we will modify a few features on that website.  Any student who would like more information prior to Thursday may e-mail Mr. P at james.parsons@mnps.org.  

 

StudyÉ

Please be reminded that in order for a student to maintain high grades, it is very important that all assignments are completed on time and that time is spent each day reviewing notes and not just doing that ÒnightÕs homework.Ó  Time studying is a very important part of middle school.
