From Mr. PÉ
¯ Students were exceptional on Monday while I
was away. Ms. Jenkins, our guest
teacher, left a glowing report!
Thanks, kids for all of the hard work. Hopefully everyone learned many important ideas about
Ancient Rome!
¯ Our March book is a non-fiction book for
WomenÕs History Month. The book
needs to be at least 75 pages and be focused on a woman who has contributed to
our society and its quest for equality.
¯ Students will need to watch for correspondence
about specific days for tutoring on ThinkLink assessment skills that need
review.
¯ Wednesday is National Read Across America Day
in honor of Dr. SeussÕ birthday.
If anyone would like to drop in and read a quick story, please send an
e-mail!
¯ Thanks to all of the parents who have been
volunteering time to help us out.
We are happy to accept any volunteer hours that can be spared as we inch
closer to the spring assessments.
¯ Pi Day will be Monday, March 14. ItÕs the first time we have actually
been at school on the real pi Day on several years. You may recall we had quite an educational blast last year,
and this year promises to be better.
Watch for an information flyer about our pi Day hat/t-shirt contest as
well as our video project.
¯ The MNPS science fair is this Friday. Those who won first place ribbons are
entered in the fair. The projects
will need to be taken to MLK Magnet after school Friday to be registered and
set up before 6PM. Public viewing is Saturday at 11:00AM, and the awards are
Saturday afternoon at 1PM.
¯ CONGRATS to the students who attended the
Regional National History Day, Friday, February 25 at MTSU. Dana Banouvong, Augusto Diedrich,
Samuel Hutchinson, and Sydney Tall all competed. Congrats to Liam Dougherty and
Noah Hubbell who placed and now go on to compete at the next NHD level.
Gradespeed AccountsÉ
Students
will need to see Mrs. Purcell-Orleck immediately if they have not already set
up their own Gradespeed account.
Mr. P is requiring that each student log in to: http://gradespeed.mnps.org every Tuesday
to review his/her grades and then inform mom/dad about the weekÕs
progress. The back of the Tuesday
Signature Sheet will have a spot for any adjustments that need to be made
(i.e.: late work, absent work, incomplete work, and low grades). Mr. P will give a participation grade
for the completed Tuesday Folder Sheet.
Student grade checking is the expectation in 7th and 8th
grade, so letÕs get a jump on it now!
Field Trip IdeasÉ
Our
class will be planning a trip to the Adventure Science Center and the Parthenon
in March. Due to lost time from
snow, we will take these field trips after school. The plan will be for kids to be picked up at dismissal time
and then meet at the field trip destination shortly thereafter. None of these trips are required, but a
sincere attempt at making it to each would be greatly appreciated! A note detailing dates and times will
be sent home. We will also go to the Renaissance Festival on a Saturday in
May. Anyone with other suggestions
is invited to send an e-mail to Mr. P.

TuesdaysÉ
As always, Tuesdays
are the day of the week for communication. Parents should receive corrected papers and a ÒMr. PÕs Note HomeÓ in the Red Tuesday
Folder. Always look for those
documents. If ever there is an
exception to that weekly schedule, it will be noted on the website. To confirm
that youÕve received everything, the ÒTuesday
Signature SheetÓ will also be attached. Always fill this form out and return on Wednesday morning.
Attach any corrected work or missing assignments to the back of that
sheet. Remember, students, making
a low grade or a zero should never be acceptable!
