TCAP Reward SkateÉ
After school today
is our
class celebration for a job well done on TCAP. Our after-school trip to Brentwood Skate will follow the
class pizza party that Mrs. Dougherty is graciously providing. After eating pizza, we will be leaving
school (about 4:00PM) to go to the Brentwood Skate Center.
From Mr. PÉ
1. Our class has voted and decided that
Ecuador will be the country we will use to represent us at Sixth Grade Field
Day on May 20. We are
looking into having field day t-shirts made. Here is an example of what our shirt can look like. Any student who would like to
design a picture to accompany this, please submit it Mr. P this week. An order form will be distributed for
ordering t-shirts next week.
2. Our
Penny, as you can see is a very expectant mother. Check out some of the pictures of her at our ÒgalleriesÓ
section of the website and at http://www.flyparsons.org/penny.html.
3. Also, please be reminded
that progress reports are being distributed on Wednesday. Several students have had a severe drop
in grade averages. Frankly, most
of these drops are due to a lack of preparation on studentsÕ part. There are lots of low quiz grades that
are direct assessments of class instruction. Low grades are also due to incomplete and missing
assignments. Students, please turn
in all your late work.
4. No returned papers are
being sent today. Tuesday folders
will be sent home next Tuesday.
5. We are finishing up our
study of space with a look at the history of the U.S. space program. We will also prepare for Rocket Day by
studying rocketry in Chapter 11.
6. Our last social studies
unit will involve the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Watch for all the details in next TuesdayÕs Note Home.

Novels É
Our
latest class novel is Crispin: Cross of Lead by Avi. In this book, our
focus is on literary devices. Our April Monthly book is Anna of Byzantium by
Tracey Barrett. This book follows
the life of a princess that struggles with her place in her royal family. A local author wrote the book, and she
plans to make a visit to Meigs in May!
From Mr. PÉ
¯ MAY EVENTS: Mark your calendars for many fun events! We will have Rocket Day on Wednesday,
May 18. Field Day will be on
Friday, May 20, and a sixth grade picnic will be held on Friday, May 27. More details to follow in the coming
weeks.
Gradespeed AccountsÉ
Mr.
P is requiring that each student log in to: http://gradespeed.mnps.org
every Tuesday to review his/her grades and then inform mom/dad about the weekÕs
progress. The back of the Tuesday
Signature Sheet will have a spot for any adjustments that need to be made
(i.e.: late work, absent work, incomplete work, and low grades). Mr. P will give a participation grade
for the completed Tuesday Folder Sheet.
Student grade checking is the expectation in 7th and 8th
grade, so letÕs get a jump on it now!

10). STUDENT REMINDER: In order to be ready for 7th grade,
students need to be sure that they are not repeatedly turning in late or
incomplete work. Work should be
neatly done with a correct heading.
Teachers should not have to try to grade work that is hastily thrown
together due to a lack of time management or disorganization. Teachers should not have to guess to
whom work belongs because the correct heading is missing.
11). GRADES: any grades with a blank means no grade has been recorded as of
yet for that assignment. Any
assignment that receives a zero (0) this nine weeks will not be eligible to be
re-done or corrected for credit.
Òre-doÓ ÒmissingÓ or ÒincompleteÓ may be corrected.
12). Sounds Reading bases are due each Monday, March 29- April 18. Each Monday, students need their parent
verification form and that weekÕs portion of the reading log completed and signed.

We are need of tissue for our classroom. Our guinea pigs are going through food
and bedding quite quickly. Any
help would be appreciated! We also
need items for the general store and sports equipment for recess. If you are able to donate, please send
those to school at your earliest convenience. Another way to donate is www.digitalwish.com. The website
has our class is registered complete with a wish list. Anyone may donate to the site to
purchase electronic equipment for our class. Many of you ask from time to time, Òwhat do we need.Ó HereÕs a site to be able to do just
that!
Twitter/FacebookÉ
Parents have another way of staying connected to our
class. Log on to www.twitter.com/meigsmagnet on

TuesdaysÉ
As always, Tuesdays
are the day of the week for communication. Parents should receive corrected papers and a ÒMr. PÕs Note HomeÓ in the Red Tuesday
Folder. Always look for those
documents. If ever there is an
exception to that weekly schedule, it will be noted on the website. To confirm
that youÕve received everything, the ÒTuesday
Signature SheetÓ will also be attached. Always fill this form out and return on Wednesday morning.
Mr. P is requiring that each student log in to: http://gradespeed.mnps.org every Tuesday
to review his/her grades and then inform mom/dad about the weekÕs

for the completed Tuesday Folder Sheet.
Attach any corrected work or missing assignments to the back of that
