Planet Profile![]()
Over the next few days, you will be working in a group of two or three to create a Planet Profile for one of the nine planets in our solar system. In this profile, your group will:
á Provide information about different aspects of your assigned planet.
á Explain why each of these aspects would or would not be conducive to life.
Be sure to consider several different topics when creating your Planet Profile, including:
á Temperature
á Weather patterns
á Planet surface and atmosphere
á Gravity
á Length of day/year
á Water
á Oxygen
After your group has researched your planet, you will create a Planet Profile powerpoint presentation to share your findings with the class.
As each group presents their Planet Profiles, the class will seek to answer the following over-arching questions:
á
What
conditions must be present in order for life as we know it to exist?
á
Would
life be able to exist on any of the planets in our solar system besides Earth?
á
Each
group member should participate in the research and the creation of the
powerpoint presentation.
á
Your
powerpoint should contain:
o
Facts
about your planet (including all of the examples listed on the previous page)
o
Explanations
as to why each specific aspect of your planet would or would not be conducive
to life
o At least two links to
websites with further information about your planet
o
Use
several resources to gather your information, including websites,
encyclopedias, your textbook, etc. List the resources you used at the end of
your presentation.
á Name your presentation planetprofname
(for
example, planetprofearth), and save it in parsons projects.
á Your group will have 10
minutes to
present your Planet Profile to the class. Every group member should speak
during the presentation.
á After your presentation,
your group will have 5 minutes to answer questions from the class. Each group
member should also participate in answering the questions.
á As other groups present
their Planet Profiles, your job is to:
o Listen carefully
o Take notes
o Ask thoughtful questions
á After every group has
presented their Planet Profile, there will be a test over basic information we
have learned about the planets.
