FRIDAYS: (ROBOTICS CLUB)
FEBRUARY - MAY 2015
1

Week #1 (February 27)
“Think Like a Scientist”
Students will do activities and projects that allow you to follow the path like robotic scientists, engineers and inventors using teamwork do. Students will make observations and sort materials based on selected attributes and properties of an object.

2

Week #2 (March 13)
“Angry Marshmallows- Catapult”
Students will use scientist and engineering properties to plan, design, and build a swinging arm trebuchet- style catapult to launch marshmallows. Building materials will include paper towel rolls, craft sticks, rubber bands and other materials from everyday life. Students will be challenged to increase the distance and effectiveness of the launch mechanism.

3

Week #3 (March 20)
“Do the Robot – No, Do the Robot Arm”
Students will, in teams, plan, build, and use a robotic arm to perform various functions. Using air pressure and every day materials around the house, students will build levers and balance them correctly to do the specific task

4

Week #4 (April 2)
“Robot Command: Draw (Can – Can Robot Build)”
Students will use those objects from the junk drawer with the addition of a simple electric motor to construct a self-drawing robot. Student groups will record invention drawings and revise them. Students will make changes to improve the robot. Experiments will be performed on how to make a compass needle move with other junk drawer supplies.

5

Week #5-9 (April 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8)
“Lego Robotics”
Students will learn how to build the Riley Rover Robot and perform basic commands- forward, backward, left, right, stop, and go. Students will explain how each action is performed and how robotics continue to change. The Riley Rover also has computer software that contains a ultrasonic sensor, color sensor, gyro sensor, gripper attachment, and cargo delivery system.
