Rules: Social Studies Projects Fair 2005

Quality of projects

Parental guidance is important in the selection and development of the project. However, the student must construct the project. The use of kits or pre-built models is strictly prohibited.  Projects using these will be disqualified.

 Entry Form

All forms must be filled in completely – both sides. Will include:

Curriculum Standard: (Indicate the standard addressed by the project?)

Bibliography: (What sources were used to research the project?}

 

Procedures for Registration, Display, Awards

Projects are to be entered between 7:30 and 9:30 A.M. on Saturday morning, April 30, 2005 at McGavock High School.

Exhibits MUST be checked in at the Entry Table if the front lobby of the school. All entry to the building will be from the McGavock Pike, main entrance of the building only.  The exhibit area will be closed during the judging process from 10:00 to 12:30. The area will be open for public viewing from 12:30 to 3:00.

Awards will be announced beginning at 3:00 P.M. in the school auditorium. Middle Division awards will be presented at 3:45 P.M.    

Exhibits not claimed by 5:30 P.M. on Saturday will not be the responsibility of McGavock High School or the sponsors of the Projects Fair. All projects not removes from the school by this time will be discarded.

 

Areas of Exhibit

 Categories:   

1. Scrapbooks (due in the Social Studies Office April 8)

2. Models such as buildings, forts, and clay configurations.

3. Handicrafts such as cross-stitching, quilts, clothing, stained glass, etc.

4. Three-dimensional projects such as standing exhibits and large projects which may not fit categories 1, 2, and 3.                        

5. Sculptured maps

6. Multimedia (due in the Social Studies Office April 8)

7. Posters such as drawings, charts or maps on poster board (must be able to be hung on display panels)

8. Group projects

    

Individual projects are those completed by on or two students. In the

case of multimedia only, up to 4 students may work together on an

individual project.

Group projects are those completed by an entire class or any group of       5 or more students. Group projects are not subject to size restrictions.

 

Note: Size Restrictions:  Total project size is limited to no larger than 3 feet by 4 feet, including display boards.

 

 

Category Descriptions:

Scrapbooks:

Collection of pictures, drawings, pamphlets, essays etc. on a specific topic.

Should be more than a simple collection of pictures.

Should include examples of student writing – reports, reactions, essays.

Models:

Projects that duplicate a scene, building, lifestyle, etc. stands alone.

Additional elements such as backboards, narrative, scrapbooks, etc. cause this entry to become three-dimensional

Handicrafts:

An original creation.

Cross-stitch, garment making, stained glass, quilt, etc.

NO KITS.

Include a brief explanation.

3-D Project:

This is combining two or more category types, eg. replica and display board
