DESCRIPTION: Two stories of young people who face unknown perils weave together in this extraordinary play. The action moves back and forth one hundred years between parallel journeys towards freedom: Jews escaping Germany and slaves fleeing the South. Hiding from Nazi patrols, a group of Jewish children find courage in a slave girl’s account, Following the Drinking Gourd. As they read, the story of Brave Mary and her triumph over racial hatred and intolerance comes alive on stage.
