October Reminders:

•Students need help dissecting the prompt-what does it ask the student to know and what does it ask the student to do, what is the student's plan?
•Many students will benefit from a mini-lesson on how to plan (i.e. a web, an outline)
•Write first AND last name, please!
•Work on legible handwriting
•Check spelling
•Check for punctuation
•Work on correct punctuation for dialogue and switching paragraphs each time there is a different speaker (fifth grade story)
•Indent, then go back to margin on the next line, usually for paragraphs
•Write in complete sentences, use paragraphs
•Use topic sentences
•Let students know that we are keeping track of these scores so we can help them develop as writers
